Michael’s tips
Having a lie-in on holiday feels fantastic. But it’s well worth getting up: When you’re standing on the Steinermandl panoramic platform in Jochtal (at 2,118 metres above sea level) as the sun rises over the peaks and illuminates the Fundres/Pfunders mountains – guaranteed goose bumps. Best of all: The cable car starts early for this special experience.
Twenty kilometres and so much variety. The village tour on my bike is my personal favourite: Start in Schabs, right on our doorstep, continue via Raas, Natz, Viums … apple orchards, a small biotope, and beautiful views again and again. Even though I’ve done it so many times, it’s always worthwhile.
As we say around here: “Ancient walls, good wine.” Neustift abbey near Brixen combines, history, culture, and wine growing. And if you have a particular fondness for white wine – welcome to the club!
Claudia’s tips
I think Brixen is the most beautiful city in South Tyrol – and it’s also the oldest. You can’t help but admire the picturesque old town and the magnificent cathedral (take it from me, a local). Brixen is also a great place to browse through lovely shops selling Italian fashion, South Tyrolean specialities, and handicrafts. Last but not least, I often treat myself to a glass of Valle Isarco/Eisacktal white wine in one of the cafés or restaurants.
It’s not too difficult, but it has real wow factor. The via ferrata up the Cir peaks at Passo Gardena/Grödner Joch pass is my secret Dolomites tip, including for families with little climbing fans. Once you reach the top: simply breathtaking!
As a ski instructor, I’ve skied countless kilometres of slopes. In winter, my favourite mountain is and always will be Mt Cuzzo/Gitschberg. The descent, the panorama – simply stunning! And by the way, my husband and kids agree.
Laurin and Marilena’s tips
When I go to the mountains, I want lots of action! The WoodyWalk on Mt Plose is really cool. And afterwards? There’s yummy Kaiserschmarren chopped pancakes at the Rossalm hut, and then I race down to the valley station by mountain cart with Dad.
Cycling down into the valley on my dad’s mountain bike, then walking barefoot through the cold water at the Kneipp stations – I love that. And the way there? Really pretty.
